Sister Eden Gets Married: The Cake Part 1

When we were considering the bakery for our wedding cake, we didn’t look any further than Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats.  Why?  Their cake – in fact all their food – is delicious AND vegan.  All of their food is:

• 100% Vegan
• Dairy/lactose-free
• Egg-free
• Cholesterol-free
• Lower in saturated fat
• Heart-healthy soy
• Sweetened primarily with evaporated cane juice
• Made with non-hydrogenated oils

What is so great about vegan food?  Besides being a healthy diet choice, it’s also better for the environment.  According to the Worldwatch Institute, it takes 25 gallons of water to produce one pound of wheat and a whopping 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat (that includes the raising of the animal, the slaughtering of the animal, etc.).

Unfortunately, vegan food conjures an image of not being very tasty, but Sticky Fingers proves that wrong. In fact, owner Doron Petersan appeared on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and won twice!…with vegan cupcakes!  And if you think that vegan food is an adult thing, ask the kids in my house.  They’ve declared all of Sticky Fingers’ treats very tasty!  So we took them along when we recently held our tasting with cake designer Kamber Sherrod.

Before we arrived, we provided Kamber with the different flavors we wanted to try.  They included:

  • Vanilla
  • Peanut Butter Fudge
  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Ganache
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Carrot Cake
  • Almond

 

Kamber threw in the almond as an added bonus since it is their most popular for weddings.  The four of us rated each of the above flavors from 1 to 10.  The hands-down favorites were peanut butter fudge, chocolate, chocolate ganache, and cookies and cream.  We opted to order almond (it would work best as a 3-tiered cake) and plan to order a sheet cake of the chocolate ganache.
